| Here at Lockhart Ranch we strive to produce the perfect all around using horses that are the FOUNDATION of the Quarter Horse Industry. The original foundation bred horses that could cut a calf, rope and drag him to the branding fire, win the buckles at the local rodeo arena, win a match race, and then come home and babysit the grandkids. We breed for confirmation (build), disposition (soundness of mind), and color in all of our colts. We have a 1,000 acres located in the hills of Northwest Arkansas. We run approximately 180 head of cows, and are using our horses on the ranch. (Mares Included). If a mare doesn't work, we don't breed her, which I feel is the difference between our stock and a lot of other breeders out there. All of our horses are rode at the local cattle auctions and will have seen a LOT of cattle before they are sold. Working our horses penning cattle really accustoms them to the noise, air gates, tractors, trucks, trailers, other horses, and they will be hauled EXTENSIVELY!! I can find out just what type of horse I've got. The cattle auction is a great place to start a young horse. It gives them a reason to do all of the things we want our horses to do. Side pass, back up, roll over their hocks, and really teaches them how to move in the shorter allies. Not to mention how to rate, read, and move cattle. It really gives a horse an advantage for penning and sorting by learning to rate and read cattle. Bloodlines include Joe Hancock, Blue Valentine, Driftwood, Gooseberry, Plenty Try, Sugar Bars, and much more. |
| Our favorite links to reputable Blue Valentine breeders!! Kesa Quarter Horses and Merrill Ranch Just take a look at their horses and you can see the dedication and commitment they have made to the American Quarter Horse with an emphasis on the Blue Valentine line. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality foundation bred quarter horses. |
