| Here at Lockhart Ranch we are a small family operated business. Occasionally we will have excellent quality ranch geldings for sale, or if your looking for your next cutting or reining prospect we may have just what you are looking for. We breed for confirmation (build), disposition (soundness of mind), and color in all of our colts. We have a 1,000 acres located in the hills of Northwest Arkansas. We run approximately 160 head of cows, and are using our horses on the ranch. (Mares Included). If a mare doesn't work, we don't breed her, which I feel is the difference between our stock and a lot of other breeders out there. All of our horses are rode at the local cattle auctions and will have seen a LOT of cattle before they are sold. Working our horses penning cattle really accustoms them to the noise, air gates, tractors, trucks, trailers, other horses, and they will be hauled EXTENSIVELY!! I can find out just what type of horse I've got. I usually have two to three horses for sale at different times of the year. I generally start our colts, and use them for a couple of years, and then I look for great homes where they can be used to their potential. The cattle auction is a great place to start a young horse. It gives them a reason to do all of the things we want our horses to do. Sidepass, back up, roll over their hocks, and really teaches them how to move in the shorter allies. Not to mention how to rate, read, and move cattle. It really gives a horse an advantage for penning and sorting because they learn to stop before the gate, which eliminates any run disqualifications. Bloodlines include Doc O'lena, Dual Jazz, Dual Pep, Doc's Quixote, Sugar Bars, Doc's Solano, Doc's Sug, Peppy San Badger, and much more. I breed and use a variety of bloodlines for different jobs. I have a few really high foundation bred horses that I use on the ranch, and then I have my hotter cutting bloodlines that I use for play!! |
